Ronald Krefman, OD, FAAO, of focalCenter, has developed a set of tools to measure in a standardized way the patient experience in the optometric practice. These tools gauge the access to care and timing issues with the visit, and what happened during the patient experience with the OD, the staff, the dispensary and also the vision plan. Dr. Krefman recommends that the scores and benchmarks provided can be used to understand the actual patient experience — identify areas where improvements can be made, then initiate change based on those vital measures, and finally to measure the results of the implemented changes.
